The desire to change the way retirement living was practiced in Australia gave birth to Halcyon, an over 50s villages company, in 2003. The founders of this company felt there was a big gap in this market which they sought to plug and this gave rise to the Halcyon model. According to this, home owners in the over 50s bracket would be allowed to buy into homes at Halcyon, set in a gated community by freeing up money from their existing homes and coming to live with a community of people with similar backgrounds and interests.

As a result, today over 550 people live in Halcyon’s three communities of over 50s villages,situated in the busy and upmarket Gold and Sunshine Coasts, South East Queensland, Australia. These three communities are Halcyon Waters, Halcyon Parks and Halcyon Landing. These over 50s villagesare built along these two coasts, which give residents of these communities all the benefits of shore life and its activities, apart from the cuisines and access to a variety of people.

Residents of these communities of over 50s villages will never be bored for lack of anything to do because the administration has taken care to see that there are activities for all kinds of people with the widest range of interests. So, you could go for a stroll by the beach or into the wide open spaces, or play a range of games like tennis, table tennis, golf, or do a spectrum of exercises like yoga, Tai Chi, aerobics, water aerobics meditation, go to the gym or play card games like Mahjong, or pursue hobbies like carpentry, cooking, read at the library, paint, arts and crafts, go to the movies, etc.

All homes are digitally connected with broadband, so any kind of computer work can be done in any of these over 50s villages.  These community dwellings are thoughtfully designed to accommodate rainwater tanks, solar heating and hot water, water recycling and has been given an energy rating of 5/6 stars. It also has a security system in place, giving all residents the assurance of 24×7 security, which begins at the gates of the community and extends to each home. So, you needn’t worry about thefts at all.

Over 50s villages at Halcyon Waters:This community is the recipient of the Australia’s Best Over 50′s Living award, for its design for people over 50. This beautifully landscaped architectural marvel is set amid 100 acresof open space and waterfront parklands at Hope Island,on the North Shore, Gold Coast. Here, you can buy your own home for anything between $409,000 and $799,000.

Over 50s villages at Halcyon Parks:Barely a few minutes’ drive from Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, this community is so close to the beach town of Caloundra that its residents enjoy all the facilities of a beach resort. For its superb design, this community received the 2006 QLD UDIA Award for Affordable Housing. It has 171 professionally designed free standing homes with international class facilities for a large variety of people.

Over 50s villages at Halcyon Landing:By the banks of the River Maroochy in BliBli township, stands the community, Halcyon Landing. This 22-hectare site will soon be the address of 170 homes with dedicated recreational facilities, a Leisure Club, a bowling green, swimming pool, spa, flood lit tennis court, carpentry shed, among others.
